Members of a group are required to save Rs. 5 per week ($.12) in a group savings fund. Any member can take an interest free loan from this fund for food and other subsistence needs such as clothing, housing repairs, etc. The group members independently determine the repayment schedule without the involvement of SKS staff. Group fund savings and loans eliminate the need for the poor to depend on the landlord for their day to day needs.
